Coburg Hill Garden

The locals know this new housing estate as the old Kodak site.  It’s high up on the hill with a great view of the city, however it does present some challenges.    Like the rest of Cobug it is home to some particularly heavy clay.  We have been busy preparing the soil over winter, adding gypsum and compost to soften the soil.  We’re up there again today planting out a Lilly Pilly (Acmena ‘Firescreen’) hedge to surround the back garden.  There had been Lilly Pillies planted previously but were more suited to a short term fix.  We’re replacing these with good plant stock, we’ll dig them in well, use some slow release and pre water.  It will take some time to get all fences covered however, the outcome will be a well formed hedge that is going to be the back bone of the garden.  Next summer when our clients are sitting on the north facing deck they will be surrounded by their own oasis in the middle of Coburg Hill.
