Contemporary light well

This courtyard forms a lightwell in a contemporary inner city townhouse. The brief was to create a ‘Japanese’ feel for the area, working within the existing constraints of a concrete floor with limited drainage. 

The solution has been to create a series of bluestone steppers that move through the space to a custom made bamboo stool. Limited planting includes Acer palmatum (Japanese Maple) that defines the changing of the seasons.

The area is free draining through the granite rocks.
