Garden Consultation

The end of another week, and Melbourne is definitely into Winter.  Our Autumn planting is coming to an end and yes everyone is tempted to head inside.  I’m sitting by the heater looking out to leaves falling on the Ornamental Grapevine and the Maple.  The Silver Birches are taking a little longer to fall.

It’s the classic time when the gardening media tell us to plan our garden and read books!  Well yes, it is a good time actually.  A good time to arrange a consultation and work out your options, start to think about layout and design.  Clear air to take stock and reassess.  In the last week or so we’ve had a good mix of garden consultations, that really do show how you might use the time for a consult.

A long term rental property in North Carlton with a young family in a typical single front terrace with minimal front garden.  Our client wanted to maximise the use of this space.  We spent our time sketching up a simple re-design that will make better use of the space, without having to over spend on structure or planting.

From there we headed to a lovely old established garden in Kensington.  A long narrow garden that just kept tumbling toward the laneway.  The layout has good bones, it just needs in fill planting and maybe another path leading to a sunny spot in the middle of the garden.  Oh and a spa down the back!

And next, a bare balcony with great north light.  The space needs to be filled with green to enclose the space and create a semi private garden to enjoy from inside and out.

So, there you are, a garden consultation can work on so many levels.  Advice on how tweak an existing space, which may just need some discussion and a basic sketch to get started.  Or, maybe it’s a brief to develop a design into a Garden Plan.
